During September 2016 MATHS DANCE has collaborated with the London based jewellery designer Emma Cassi on an exciting interdisciplinary project which brings together mathematics, dance and handmade jewellery. This was a fantastic opportunity for MATHS DANCE to enrich the research on the Dancing Puzzles interactive installation project and work alongside a talented designer whose work has been genuinely inspired by mathematical concepts.
Emma Cassi’s masks and costumes for The Hand and Lock Prize for embroidery 2016 have been inspired by the gifted mathematician Ada Lovelace and the abstract pioneer artist Hilma af Klint. Emma’s characters are moving in space trying to solve a mathematical puzzle and thus creating a choreography based on the exploration of an algorithm.
